If you intend to go skiing this winter you must first make sure that you get the right equipment. As well as good clothing you must ensure that you buy a pair of good quality ski boots. However, as there are quite a number of different kinds available it can prove difficult especially if you’ve never skied before to know which ones will be right for you.

So even before you go out and buy yours which could quite a lot it is a good idea to learn some more about the different types of ski boots available. Below we take a look at just some of the things that one needs to be aware with regards to this type of equipment for skiing that can help you to determine better which pair will be suitable for you.

As we stated above the boots one wears when skiing come in several different styles and categorized by the way they are worn, and which we now take a look at below.

1. Rear Entry – Of the boots we discuss in this article these ones are perfect for complete ski novices. They are very quick and simple to put on and off and the rear part of them is flexible allowing putting your foot into them easy. The buckles on these are situated at the back and this is how they gained their name. As these don’t cost too much these are perfect for those who won’t be skiing regularly. Also it is a good idea if you only intend to go skiing once to hire a pair.

2. Front Entry – If you buy a pair of these ski boots they allow you more control over your skiing as they allow you to make more precise movements. Known also as overlap boots these are what many skiers choose to wear as they allow them to be more versatile in their skiing and also help to improve their performance. But these boots rather than having the buckles at the rear have four of them at the front.

3. Mid Entry – These are the boots that offer you the benefits of the ones we have discussed previously. Not only can they easily be put on and taken off as they have buckles at the back. They are much quicker to put on because unlike the other styles they come with just 2 rather than 4 buckles as on the front entry kind. Again these allow you more versatility in your skiing movements so ensuring that your skiing can be improved.

For anyone who does intend to do a lot of skiing then they should be considering spending money on a pair of the front or mid entry ski boots. Along with helping to ensure that they can move more easily when skiing they can help them improve what they already know. But it is a good idea before investing money in this crucial piece of skiing equipment one tries out several pairs first to determine which feel most comfortable when being worn.

Craigdon Mountain Sports are a UK based retailer of a selection of outdoor gear including cheap camping equipment such as tents, sleeping bags and mats. They also sell specialist gear for climbing, snowsports and walking.

Here is a list of must have items sure to make your outdoor experience safer and more enjoyable. These are applicable for dayhikes and backpacking trips.

by James Warner

Here is a list of must have items sure to make your outdoor experience safer and more enjoyable. These are applicable for dayhikes and backpacking trips.

First recommendation is to obtain a map of the area that you will be hiking. You don’t want to become lost, so pick up a map at the visitor center, ranger station or download one at www.usgs.gov. If you suffer an injury, you can use the map to aid rescuers in locating you.

Purchase a map reading compass and learn how to use it. Once you’ve learned how to orient the park map and the compass, you will know what direction you are facing, how to easily correct your course and get back on track.

Staying hydrated is crucial. You can survive about a month with no food, but only a few days without water. You can become dehydrated quickly by exertion, perspiration, heat and exposure. It’s a good idea to have 2 one liter bottles of water. Also, carry some water purification means with you. I use a liquid water treatment drops.

Have extra food with you. Enough so that you could get through another day if necessary. Some companies produce compressed whole food bars that serve as complete meal replacements. My favorite is called the Pro Bar. Taking a few of these with will extend your energy levels if you need them.

A few more layers of clothing for comfort and safety. Temperatures can drop unexpectedly or at nightfall. If you hike through rain or fall into a creek, having only one layer of wet clothes when it starts getting colder can spell disaster. Make sure to wear synthetics as they are more insulative when wet and dry quickly.

Pack some sort of light source like a headlamp or flashlight. If you are forced to make camp or hike out in the dark, you will be able to see trail debris an obstacles that could cause danger.

A good personal first aid kit is a must. If you like, you can make one yourself but be sure to include moleskin, triangular bandages and specifics for the outdoors. Don’t forget any personal medications. Take a basic wilderness first aid course to help you understand common outdoor injury and illness.

On rare occasion one must light a fire in the backcountry as a matter of survival. I’ve been on a kayak trip where someone overturned and they were soaked just as the temperature started to drop. Do not light a fire unless absolutely necessary. Bring matches and a lighter in a waterproof case and use caution to avoid wildfires.

A small camping knife may come in handy for a number of purposes. Make sure that the one you use has a locking blade, you don’t want it to close on a finger.

Don’t forget the sunblock. Bring some sunglasses as well and you may want a cap with a visor or brim for extra UV protection. Your skin and eyes will be much happier.

The Kimberley Region of northwest Australia and the nearly one thousand islands off its coast have been a top attraction for tourists for many years. Offering beautiful secluded bays and beaches, mangroves, rainforests and more, this areas is best explored by boat.

You can find a cruise to go with any interest, from birdwatching, photography and beach combing to hiking and fishing. Take a longer trip if you’d like to swim in some of the area’s beautiful waters, teaming with fish, turtles and other wildlife, or do some island exploration.

You’ll get the chance to see birds, sharks, whales, and saltwater crocodiles from a distance, as well as the incredible erosion of Strickland Bay, the pure white beach at Hidden island and the iron mine at Kooland Island.

There’s also Aboriginal art, working pearl farms, and the chance to fish near coral reefs or collect oysters. Some cruises will even allow anglers to choose the day’s catch as a meal.

Check out the Horizontal Falls at Talbot Bay – a real horizontal waterfall that’s caused by the way the tide goes through a passage in the cliffs. The gap is so narrow that the water builds up faster on one side than it can pass through, making a difference of four to six meters in the water level, and causing a waterfall to flow between the bays.

Some have described these falls as one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. However, you should remember to see them under the safe circumstances of a cruise, since extreme water conditions have caused many fatalities among sailors and pearl divers through the years.

Fortunately, it’s safe if you travel with someone who knows what they’re doing, and boats even pass through the horizontal waterfall, if you’re looking for a thrill. Want to see the spectacular sight without getting wet? Consider a helicopter or seaplane ride instead.

Look for cruises that do most of their distance travel at night if you want to be sure to have the most time on the islands themselves. In addition, look at what’s included in the tour – some include fishing and snorkeling gear as well as meals and snacks, while on others, these things cost extra.

Anyone going on an adventure cruise in Australia should take appropriate clothing, including light garments that will keep them cool, a wide brimmed hat, and good walking shoes that can get wet. Don’t forget the sunscreen and insect repellent, either, and pack your camera.

Most tours travel during the dry season, between April and November, but some run during the wet season, due to the many locations for shelter if the weather becomes rougher. Choose your cruise time according to what sights you want to see and the kind of weather you’re willing to put up with.

Kimberley adventure cruises are a great choice for anyone who’s looking for fun. Pick a cruise that lasts long enough to let you see it all, and get all cruise details before you leave, so you’ll have a great time.

Backpacking and hiking are two of the most thrilling choices in outdoor activities. These sports are being chosen by more and more people every year as a means of relaxation and physical fitness. Even families are getting in to the backpacking and hiking action. But, for the newer backpacking or hiking person, there are a few items that are required to stay safe and secure while backpacking.

The suns rays. The sun can be very damaging to many parts of the body. When backpacking or hiking, the sun can be in contact with the skin and eyes the entire day spent walking. Sunscreen that is waterproof and of an SPF of 30 or more can provide just enough protection for the skin. The eyes, on the other hand, are the body parts left unprotected. Including a pair or two of sunglasses in every pack will help to make the trip easy to see and safer for the eyes.

Safety First. Many people forget about safety when backpacking or hiking, but there can be problems and when there are, a whistle can help. Depending on where you are backpacking or hiking, a whistle with no “pea” (the small ball in the center) may be the best choice. If the backpacking or hiking is taking place during cold months, the “pea” could freeze. Along those same lines, a plastic whistle will be sure to never stick to your lips in the cold.

Bring lots of water. Water is one of the heaviest things you will pack into your bundle when backpacking or hiking, yet it is essential to life. When backpacking or hiking, it is always better to have more than you need and a filtration device is the best way to ensure a constant supply of water. In case of emergency, a filtration device designed for the outdoors can filter any water supply making it drinkable.

Starting a fire. For those overnight trips, a firestarter or set of waterproof matches are ideal for a little warmth and a warm meal. But, many backpacking and hiking trips are only day trips and the backpacking and hiking team feel they may not need these things. One the contrary, as a safety measure, every member should include a way to start a fire in their packing essentials.

Treating Injuries. Even though every backpacking or hiking trip would ideally be without injury, no one can assure this will happen. A first aid kit needs to be prepared for every pack, not just one. Carrying an individual first aid kit is the right choice just in case one of the people backpacking or hiking gets separated from the rest of the group. The first aid kit should include a pocket knife and pocket tool set, as well as the general first aid supplies.

Don’t get lost. Getting lost is one of the worst feelings of all time. A compass and a map can help to keep all backpacking and hiking team members on the right trail throughout the trip. These two essentials are the ones that are forgotten a lot of times when packing the bundles for the trip. Every member of the backpacking and hiking team should have access to a compass and map.

Hiking and backpacking are great ways to get a little physical activity and become better acquainted with nature and life outside. Together as a team, the backpacking and hiking group needs to make sure that every pack includes these essentials as a base and build the pack from there.

However, people do get lost and have accidents every now and a again and it can become a dangerous activity very quickly if you are not prepared.

Here we look at are just 4 simple safety tips to ensure that your hiking trips don’t get you into difficulty.

Safety Tip No1 – Take a partner of friend along.

There’s really no need to worry about setting off by yourself if you are going for a short hike in a nearby area on easy terrain, but, if you are heading out into heavily forested wilderness areas with winding trails and steep canyons then the possibility of getting lost or suffering an injury becomes very real and you should think carefully about whether it is sensible to head out alone.

Taking a partner along has many advantages, especially if that individual is a seasoned hiker. Obviously, ‘two heads are better than one’ and if you do become lost or run into difficulty you’re far less likely to panic if you have somebody with you to help solve the problem.

Safety Tip No 2 – Ensure that someone knows where you’re going.

If you are new to hiking then you should certainly stick to clearly marked and well traveled trails and should not start to stray from these trails to explore until you have some experience and have had an opportunity to learn and practice the basics of map reading and compass work. However, it will not take you too long before you’re ready to try some more adventurous routes and the likelihood of getting injured or lost will arise.

As a consequence, you should always tell somebody where you are going and when you plan to return so that they can dispatch a search party if you don’t return when expected.

Safety Tip No 3 – Take along some basic equipment.

It’s vital that you have a basic survival kit with you and the local hiking club will be able to give you excellent advice on the sort of items that this should include. Here we are looking at such things as matches and a lighter, a good knife, a first aid kit and a flashlight with fresh batteries.

It is also a good idea to have a map and compass with you and a fully charged cell phone.

Safety Tip No 4 – Take some basic provisions with you.

Water or other fluids like sports drinks are clearly essential as you can lose a great deal of fluid even over a short period of time on a hot day. You should remember however that water is bulky, so take along enough but not too much. Do not forget though that you must not drink from local streams as natural water sources might appear to be inviting but they are often loaded with bacteria and might make you sick very quickly.

Also do not forget to take along sufficient food to last you. There’s no pleasure in being hungry out on the trail but don’t forget that you can last a lot longer without food than without water.

For some, there is one question that is uncomfortable when asked. For a few, this question is even disturbing because it threatens the positive impact that ecotourism can have on the tourism industry and on the world environment. But some have asked the question nonetheless: Is ecotourism becoming a problem, or is it almost entirely beneficial?

There is a large segment of the population that knows little or nothing about the concept of ecotourism. The members of this segment of society generally participate in more traditional mass/recreation tourism, basing their travels in a city and giving no thought to the natural resources that are being exploited. There is, however, a portion of the world population that is quite aware of the ecotourism concept and they want to understand the idea more fully so they can decide for themselves if this segment of the tourism industry is a good thing or a bad thing.

It might be wise to begin with a fundamental understanding of ecotourism. Only then can the thought process move on to whether it is a good influence or a negative influence on the resources and cultures of the planet.

Those who take part in ecotourism travel to a selected destination so that they can experience the culture, wildlife and scenery the site has to offer. I took one such trip to alicante last summer. Most ecotourism participants are committed, socially conscious individuals who want an adventure that involves preserving resources and even restoring some of the areas to their natural state. Ecotourism gives travelers the opportunity to grow personally, through an experience that cannot be duplicated.

Ecotourism has its roots in the idea of individual travelers being socially, culturally and environmentally informed so that they can avoid having a negative impact on their surroundings. In addition, these travelers try to enhance the integrity of destinations and encourage the traditional cultures of local populations.

With this type of individual involved, can ecotourism really be a problem for the globe and its inhabitants? Some would say that this is not the case, because the vision of ecotourism is to help eliminate pollution and to celebrate diversity in nature and culture. Such actions can only be good for tourism as a whole, some would argue. If tourists walk, with backpacks, instead of driving, ecotourists would ask, isn’t that a positive impact?

There are some, however, who find that ecotourism is becoming a problem for others who enjoy nature. For example, some lifelong scuba divers are encountering a growing number of beginning divers who take to the sea because they feel they should enjoy and celebrate the magnificent aquatic life in our oceans. These experienced divers sometimes draw criticism from ecotourism proponents who believe that human beings should not scuba dive because it disturbs the natural flow and rhythm of the ocean dwellers.

Most clear-thinking individuals will come to their own conclusions, based on experiences within the ecotourism or mass tourism fields. For most, however, ecotourism is not a problem, because these individuals believe the activity is beneficial. There may be no clear-cut answer in this ongoing debate.

Casablanca is a famous classic movie if ever there was one set in the exotic Casablanca, Morocco of the 1930′s. Casablanca is a movie that expresses the irony and pain of life, but more importantly, it expresses the joys that life can bring.

With an unlikely and almost unwilling hero played by Humphrey Bogart, and a beautiful and naive heroine Casablanca will make you cry, laugh and feel as no other movie will.

Casablanca the city is a mixed bag of Morocco, where modern, hip and seedy all come together. Casablanca is 240 Km North of Marrakesh. There is train service for about €10/person.

Morocco’s gross domestic product grew 8.1 percent in 2006, up from 1.7 percent in 2005. Moody’s Investors Service rates the country as “stable,” with credit strengths that include a young population, as well as structural and democratic progress. Morocco’s Jewish minority has decreased significantly and numbers only about 7,000 (See History of the Jews in Morocco).

Most of the 100,000 foreign residents are French or Spanish; many are teachers or technicians and more and more retirees migrate to Morocco, especially to Marrakesh. Morocco is a great place for American investment and exports: the country has a stable political environment, an advanced privatization program, prudent fiscal policies, and a low inflation rate.

Casablanca’s modern attitude and big-city edge makes it today the most cosmopolitan of all Moroccan cities, a vibrant economic hub with the largest port found anywhere in the Maghreb. Some of the highlights worth exploring include the majestic Hassan II Mosque and the lively squares of Place des Nations Unies and Mohammed V, which host some of the city’s most impressive architecture.

Casablanca is a giant metropolitan port city with unmistakable Moroccan flavor and international appeal. Casablanca is also a mixture of old and new, with the recently completed Hassan II Mosque, the second largest in the world, and a notably historic medina of its own. Casablanca stands for one of the most progressive African cities.

Casablanca is also the center for more than half of all bank transactions in Morocco. Casablanca is the seat of numerous Arab and French schools, an art school, the Goethe-Institut, and the Hassan II mosque (1993), one of the world’s largest. Casablanca is also the home of the Hassan II Mosque, the second largest in the world. The Jewish community contributed to the construction of this mosque, which was inaugurated in 1994.

Casablanca the movie is useful as it offers a snapshot of a moment when World War Two was just getting underway and was yet to be won. To think about the flow of history can result in an understanding of the fear that the Nazis instilled or the difficulty involved in assembling a workable allied unity. Since the movie, Casasblanca the city and Morocco have attracted people from all over the world who were influenced by the intrigue of the movie and who savor travel adventures.

Casablanca has a reputation for its beaches and nightlife. While in Casablanca, be sure to visit the Royal Palace and the Great Mosque, as well as the Hassan II Mosque, which is one of the only mosques in Morocco that a non-Muslim person can enter.

Casablanca is the economic center of Morocco and its most modern city. The largest city in North Africa, with a population of more than 4 million people, Casablanca is renowned not only in movie lore but also for its fascinating array of eclectic architecture, its leather work and its Medouin carpets.

For a holiday in a cosmopolitan and even exotic North African city Casablanca is well worth checking out.
