You are probably aware that Orlando vacations revolve around theme parks, but this beautiful city has much more to offer the visitor than just thrilling rides. Orlando has many churches, museums, parks, markets and unusual tourist attractions to keep the most determined visitor happy. It is a great place to visit even if you only have shopping on your mind as Orlando area is full of beautiful shopping malls, restaurants and shops of every type. Although Zoos have taken a bit of criticism in recent years, their value to education and the preservation of species cannot be dismissed and the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford is one of these. Privately owned, this zoo is also a botanical garden run by a charitable group whose purpose is to protect native and endangered species around the world.
It is also possible to see a large collection of the works of Louis Tiffany at the Museum of American Art over in Winter Park. The famous chapel interior commissioned for the World’s Columbian Exhibition back in 1893 is also here along with many items of Tiffany jewelry, leaded glass, ornaments and clayware.
Orlando is certainly a city for all age groups with about the same number of adult and family attractions. If you are more technology and science minded then a trip to the Orlando Science Center will be a must as is a huge complex incorporating 10 halls with exhibitions everything from the Florida Everglades to the plains of Mars. An alternative to this would be the International Trolley and Train Museum which can be found along International Drive and has one of the country’s largest operating indoor G gauge layouts in a space of over four thousand square feet.
Home to the Titanic Exhibition on International Drive the Mercado Center is the where you are treated like you are ACTUALLY traveling onboard the Titanic; this is a really eerie experience and includes original objects from the Titanic. In the heart of downtown away from all the business is the Lake Eola Park. Over forty acres of beautiful sidewalks where you can spend a few hours of peace.
Now you couldn’t possibly visit Orlando without a trip to the numerous theme parks including Disney World, Universal Studios and of course not to forget the fantastic Seaworld. If you are on you first Orlando vacation, try to visit all the major attractions first because it is almost certain you will return again another year.
